A companion to the app

The same world,
seen many ways.

A dog’s twilight world. A person’s cataracts. An owl’s night vision. Through My Eyes re-renders a scene the way another set of eyes might receive it — and this site explains what it’s doing and why, with the science to back it up.

What this is

Curiosity first. Science underneath.

You don’t need to know any biology to enjoy seeing a scene the way a horse or a hawk might. But when you’re curious, the depth is here: every way of seeing has a short, plain explanation of what the app changes and why real eyes work that way — and, one click further, the detail and sources for anyone who wants them. And if you’re wondering why some famous eyes (like the mantis shrimp) aren’t here, that’s a story too — see myths & misconceptions.

A note on what this is and isn’t. Through My Eyes is made for wonder and empathy — to help us imagine how others experience the world. It approximates these ways of seeing; it is not a medical or diagnostic tool, and it can’t show any one person’s actual vision.
